If you open a book about trees or google "maple trees", you will see that there are many varieties of this tree. In fact, there are over 100 different species of maple around the world, and in Canada, we have about 10 of those species.
What's the most important one? The most famous one? For us in Canada, I'd say yes, it's the sugar maple, the one that gives us that delicious liquid gold we call maple syrup. How does it do that? Listen to find out.
I worry though that our ability to enjoy this sweet treat is going to disappear one day as climate change affects the weather and the health of these trees. But for today, I hope you will enjoy listening to this advanced English episode, and learning about these trees while keeping in mind that one day, they might be unable to make syrup, or even worse, become endangered or extinct.

Oh Marisa, I love that image of the Little House on the Prairie! In many ways that is exactly the image of the original sugar shacks used by the French settlers. For better or worse, I do have a sweet tooth, but I make my own granola at home to control the ingredients and I add just enough maple syrup to taste just a little bit maple. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this episode 💕

It took me some time to comment on this one for 2 reasons. First, I was at the gym when I first listened to it. Second, I needed some time to choose the most meaningful words to express the feelings it brought me. It reminded me of Laura Ingalls’ book series I read when I was a child. I could “see” the illustrations of the book in my mind while listening to you speak. I don’t have a sweet tooth -I’ve been educating my palate over the years. But I never run out of Maple syrup. 🍁🍁❤️

It’s true, these trees are wonderful! Thank you for listening and for sharing your comments! I love hearing from you. I imagine the cherry trees in New Jersey will be blooming soon. How wonderful they are too! So pretty and pink 🌸
